The platform is not a neutral introduction service. Its revenue often comes from upgrades, fees and recruitment, not from successful relationships.

Where the money comes from

A platform can earn from subscriptions, paid messages, profile boosts, verification badges, deposits and referral commissions. The revenue grows when users keep paying, not when they leave happily.

This does not automatically make every platform a scam. It does mean the platform's incentives are not the same as yours.

Membership fees and invisible inventory

A membership may promise access to a pool of wealthy users. The profiles may be inactive, duplicated or controlled by the platform.

Before paying, ask what exactly is guaranteed, whether the fee is refundable and how many real, active users exist. A vague promise is not a product.

Verification fees and deposits

The next step is often a verification fee, a credibility deposit or a payment to unlock a higher level. The wording makes the payment sound like a formality.

Legitimate identity checks usually do not require sending money to a stranger. If the only way to prove that you are real is to pay, treat it as a warning.

Agents and recruitment

Some users are encouraged to recruit friends in exchange for commissions or refunds. The structure can turn a paid membership into a chain of personal referrals.

Recruitment shifts the risk onto your relationships. If the main way to recover your money is to bring in someone else, stop and reassess.

A fee checklist

  • Can you verify the company and the payment recipient?
  • Is the refund policy written down and realistic?
  • Are you paying to contact a person or to unlock a feature?
  • Does the platform use urgency, secrecy or shame to keep you paying?
  • Are you being asked to recruit friends or family?
Keep receipts and screenshots. If the platform refuses to identify the seller or the refund route, report it and consider a chargeback or legal advice.
